Understanding the environmental impact of our products

At Berdal, sustainability is central to everything we do. An important part of our strategy is measuring and reducing the environmental impact of our products. That is why we have carried out a life cycle assessment (LCA) for the Gripline buckets and tubs and the Pandser EPDM. This allows us to map out the full impact of our products, from raw materials to waste processing.

How we determine our carbon footprint

An LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) fully maps the total carbon emissions of a product, process or service. We look at:

  • The raw materials required
  • Production and transport
  • The use of the product
  • What happens when the product is discarded or recycled

The purpose of an LCA is to gain insight into the components of the product that have the greatest impact on the environment. This enables us to take more targeted sustainability measures.

Benefits for our partners

  • Insight and transparency: you can see the exact environmental impact of each product
  • Comparability: products can be better compared in terms of sustainability
  • Support with certification: our EPDs provide concrete information for tenders and sustainability goals
  • Contribution to a circular economy: together we are working on smarter and more sustainably produced products

From LCA to EPD

We record the results of an LCA in an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), which is a product's environmental passport. An EPD provides insight into, among other things:

  • CO₂ emissions
  • Energy consumption during the product's lifetime
  • Reusability and waste

An EPD is standardised and can be shared externally with customers, policymakers and partners. This allows us to provide transparent and comparable information that helps with certification, tenders and sustainable choices.

The next step

We want to further expand our range of LCAs in 2026 by also conducting analyses for Pandser Water Damming Foil (DPC) and Lead Substitutes. This will give us even more insight into the environmental impact of our products and enable us to further strengthen our sustainability strategy. This expansion will help us and our partners make more responsible choices and contribute to a circular and environmentally friendly construction sector.
